Bum's of Steel ---- 60K all the way baby!!

What fun would it be if there were no flight delay’s, got my first taste of it on the tour, flight was supposed to leave San Francisco for Los Angeles at 6:10 pm, we did not take off till about 7:15 pm. Connecting flight to Auckland was at 9:30 pm and what lied ahead were the joys of going from one terminal to another at LAX. Lovely isn’t it!!

After huffing and puffing my way from Terminal 7 to Terminal 2 in less then 20 min for the flight to depart, I get more wonderful news, they had been announcing my name for upgrade but I did not show up, hence it was given to next person in line.  My charm did not work at all and now was to get the joys for the next 12+ hrs to enjoy my flight in seat 60K. Got glimpse of the Miami vs Dallas game, where it seemed like Miami was in control before I finally boarded the plane.

You know it was not that bad after all, I was pleasantly surprised to see enough leg and hip room for big guy like me to sit quite well through the flight.  Air New Zealand definitely has a better cabin than United. Sat next to a nice couple from Timaru, who were on the way back home after spending 8 weeks in US driving their RV that they bought in LA for around 12,000 miles across the US. Heard some nice stories of their travels and also was amazed to find out that they shipped their RV back to New Zealand, go figure!!.

With flight well on its way, I watched Firewall and The Matador and then slept most of the flight to my early arrival in Auckland on Sat Jun 17 at 5:15 am.  Whizzing through immigration I waited for my luggage to arrive, till I heard someone from Air New Zealand calling my name and I knew it at the very moment my luggage was not here, sure enough he gave me the news and told me they would deliver to my friend’s place later in the day.

I guess it’s been an exciting start to the trip and I hope my luck gets better as the trip progresses, but before I forget I better stop writing to call American Express to claim my insurance on delayed luggage  :-)
